I’ve spent the better part of 20 years figuring out how to make things look good, sound good, tell a story, and occasionally convince a client that the strange idea might actually work.

I studied Film & Television Production at the Savannah College of Art and Design, then proceeded to take a remarkably indirect route to where I am today.

Along the way, I’ve worked in film and television, commercial production, photography, hospitality, food and beverage, wine and spirits, and more than a few jobs that had absolutely nothing to do with cameras. I’ve managed bars, distilled spirits, taught school, fabricated metal, jumped out of airplanes, spent time underwater, lived and worked overseas, and somehow managed to turn most of it into useful production experience.

Eventually, the cameras won.

Today I’m a director, producer, cinematographer, photographer, editor, FAA-certified drone pilot, and founder of Brian Cary Productions. I’ve worked with brands large and small, from tightly controlled commercial productions to jobs where the entire crew consists of me, several cameras, too many cases, and a deeply optimistic assessment of how much equipment one person can carry.

I’m equally comfortable building a crew and running a full production as I am moving quickly with a small footprint. My work has taken me through hospitality, wine, spirits, food, lifestyle, events, branded content, documentary, social media, and whatever category we decide to invent next.

I’m also fascinated by the tools that keep changing how we make things. Motion graphics, VFX, generative AI, new cameras, new workflows. I’ll happily use something cutting-edge if it makes the idea better. I’ll just as happily ignore it and point a camera at something beautiful if that’s the better answer.

After two decades, that’s probably the biggest thing I’ve learned:

The gear changes. The platforms change. The algorithms definitely change.

A good story is still a good story.

And I still really like making them.
